Question regarding Home Security camera and wiring?

I’ve run cat5 cable throughout the house, which i thought I could use to connect security cameras. I don’t need anything fancy (no recording) i just want to be able to use a switcher with a couple of cameras to view who’s at the front door from my TV.

My question is, can cat5 cable handle what the cables that run video/audio/power to the camera handle? Mostly worried about the power.
I don’t have power at the camera locations, so I need cameras that can run power through the connecting cable from the switcher. I would like to splice the cable that comes with these cameras and solder the ends to my prewired cat5 cable. I’m just woried that the cat5 cable wont be able to handle the power…. any input is appreciated.
(I don’t want wireless cameras and am not looking for high end stuff just a basic system)

How much did you pay for an ADT system?

I was given a price quote for an ADT home security system. The price I was quoted was:
$100 per glass break detector
$150 per smoke detector
$75 per door or window contact
$299 for the ‘wireless package’–1 keypad, 1 keyfob, 2 contacts, 1 motion detector
The service would be $35/monthly.

What have others paid for their security systems? Are these prices negotiable? I think they seem fairly high; is there a way to just buy the basic ADT package and add on things like glass break, smoke detector, etc., purchased elsewhere?

Thank you for any help!

Security system recommendations while living in an apartment. I don’t trust the other tenants?

I’m moving with two other friends into a 3 bedroom apartment. There are security cameras installed, but they look very outdated. My friends and i will be moving with quite a number of expensive items. There are some tenants we’ve seen that we just don’t trust. We just want to feel safer leaving our things at home.
Any suggestions?

We don’t want to get a dog, and i know we can always buy some stickers but i’m also worried that that’ll only DRAW attention to us.

I live in Ontario, Canada.

I’m a very paranoid person about my belongings not being stolen.

Now I’m in deep research for finding a home security system for my brand new home. I pretty much live alone, and on a very strict budget with my mortgage payments.

Should I pay the dough to have ADT install my security system, or would it make any difference to go with these local small business security companies?
