A significant increase in the sales of nannycam reflects the growing uneasiness of parents leaving their young children in the care of sitters. There are many reasons for this concern, but should parents tell the nannies about the presence of video surveillance cameras in the home?

Should Nanny Be Told?

A nannycam at home, is it legal? You are torn between secrecy and fear of the law. Anyway, it is your home and your children. Are these not enough reasons to withhold the information from the nanny? This is the dilemma confounding parents in 15 US states.

The law notwithstanding, there are valid reasons why you should still tell the nanny you have not only one nannycam but also several scattered all over the place.

1. Basic courtesy – Nannies are your employees and should be treated with the courtesy due their position in the household. They are trained to provide child care and are carefully screened by nanny agencies to prevent repeats of notorious nanny cases where children are abused and harmed by the people who are supposed to care for them.

2. Keep a good nanny – If you do not tell the nanny about the nannycams stashed in your place and she discovers it by chance, she will be insulted by the implications of the cameras’ presence. What if she’s reliable, competent, and great with the kids? You’ll lose a gem. Informing the nanny-hopefuls about the nannycam before the hire is the best time to give the information. If they have nothing to hide, they’ll pursue their application for the posting.

3. Safety – In instances you get a temporary nanny, most likely a teenager in the neighborhood, you want to be sure of everybody’s safety in the house. Young babysitters need instructions, not only on child-minding, but also on their safety from unwanted visitors.

4. Good performance – Knowing that there are cameras in the house keeps nanny on her toes. She’ll be more circumspect in dealing with the children, following schedules, and keeping away from the phone and the master’s bedroom.

5. Develops trust – Believe or not, but the presence of nannycams develops trust. The nanny knows you know she is doing a good job and this positive turn enhances your employer-employee relationship.

The nanny camera does not only videotape the activities of the nanny. You can check if the kids are behaving or making life miserable for the nanny. This gives you even more reason why you should tell the nanny about your stash.

Precautions to Take

The ethical and legal issues about a hidden nannycam are not to be dismissed lightly. To avoid legal tussles, the hidden nanny cameras should not be positioned in areas where the nanny’s privacy can be violated, nor should you install audio recording.

Audio recording is illegal in majority of the states, and there are gray areas in audio surveillance especially when it concerns children in the care of adults. Unless you are a police officer on duty, or working on national security projects, you can tape conversations. But with the nanny, it is a different story.

Before outfitting your home with a nannycam know the local laws. You might get an activist nanny who can put you in trouble. Like you, nannies have wised up to the ways of spy cameras, too. So beware.

By: Nahshon Roberts

About the Author:

With crime rising and troublesome folks playing a major role in everyday life, its wise to have some sort of surveillance for your home, such as a wireless pinhole camera. Sometimes you may suspect that your spouse is cheating on you, or you’re being stalked and harassed. There may even be times when you are concerned about babysitters or nannies caring for your children. Well, here are some valuable pointers on installing up a wireless pinhole camera to help help you feel more secure. Security of yourself and loved ones are top priority. It has nothing to do with paranoia. Try to place wireless pinhole cameras in places that are legal. If you are not sure, check with your local PD to clarify any questions that may arise, especially when concerning permits. All suggestions are meant to be used within the limits of the law.

Today’s market offer an array of wireless pinhole cameras, ranging from cheap to excessively expensive. The more money you are willing to spend, the more features you will acquire and be able to use at your discretion. However, for primary purposes, a simple wireless pinhole camera and an AC adapter should do the trick. Sure, you can buy a teddy bear nanny cam, wall clock, or lamp with a camera hidden inside of it (which can be costly), but purchasing a mini wireless pinhole camera alone will cost you less money and you can place wherever you prefer.

Within my current home situation, I have wired my home to avoid invasions due my home is wired against intrusion due to people peeping through my windows and invading my privacy. To rectify the problem, I contacted my local law enforcement agency and sought their opinions. In return, they told me that it was legal to set up a wireless pinhole camera. Therefore, I logged onto eBay and learned about wireless pinhole cameras and other surveillance systems. With my current budget in mind, it was important that I find a wireless pinhole camera that was not too expensive. I found a wireless pinhole camera kit for only $40 bucks.

The wireless pinhole camera kit was mailed to me which included a receiver, two AC adapters, a cable and the tiny little wireless pinhole camera. Assembly was really easy! All I had to do was plug the adapter into the camera and another adapter into the receiver. Then, of course, plug each adapter into the wall outlet. Easy as pie! The kit included a battery hookup for wireless use, but some prefer the adapters. However, the challenging part was figuring out how to make the camera and receiver communicate and sync with my television. In the end, it was easier that I first imagined.

My surveillance receiver is color coded with video input plugs, which includes one yellow white input. I simply plugged the cables into the corresponding colors and hooked the other ends into the back of television with the matching colors. There is a knob on the side of the receiver to help adjust the picture to fit your needs. You may ask yourself “How can I find the picture” due to only seeing TV programs.

You have to find the “Video Source” button on your primary remote control. It may not look the same on all of them. Ultimately, this button controls your ability to switch your TV to DVD or VCR, etc.. There maybe different frequencies on your television so hit you “Video Source” button repeatedly until you find the correct channel. When you see a picture on the screen of a little plugged in camera (make sure the camera is connected and on) you’ve found the right one. If the screen goes blank (keep changing the frequency on the receiver until you find the right one). Then, on the wireless pinhole camera, just change the adjustable knob to until you achieve the desired picture quality.

It can become tricky trying to adjust the pinhole camera but monitoring interference will not be a problem of nay sort. Ask a friend to come over and help you so that you can take turns going back and forth adjusting the picture quality. If you want to secure the camera in place try using heavy duty double sided tape.

Using a wireless pinhole camera may not be for all but a heck of an idea for those who have victimized, vandalized, or harassed. Don’t let the offenders get the best of you or your loved ones. Now you have proof and it wasn’t too expensive or pricey. Just simply install following one step at a time and viola, your safe and secure. Now, who said you are technically challenged?

By: Gregory Prather

About the Author:

Natural gas is one of the most popular sources of energy for homes and it is wildly used especially in well-developed countries that have laid out the proper infrastructure for it. Natural gas is distributed through gas pipes that usually run underground and into your house. And while it is a rare event, gas leaks do happen and can cause damage to people’s property or worse, could hurt those inhabiting the affected house.

Natural gas is composed methane which is a highly combustible gas and is odorless which increases its hazardous nature. However, gas companies came up with a solution by including an additive “warning” smell into the gas. The smell was created to be too strong that it will easily noticed by most people. However, there is a possibility that people with reduced ability to smell will not respond to this method of alerting people of possible leaks.

This is a situation where electronic gas detectors will come in handy. Natural gas detectors are devices that analyze the air for this combustible gas and make audible and/or visible alarm to alert the people within the vicinity of potentially dangerous gas leaks. This is an important safety precaution most especially if your house is hooked up to gas distribution lines.

There are gas detectors that you can install by yourself the way you install smoke detectors. But there may be other models or brands that must be installed professionally. Either way, what is important is actually where you install the gas detectors. It is advised that it is best to install the devices near the location where potential leaks may occur or where you use the natural gas.

Other considerations when choosing a safety gas detector:

Sensitivity – false positives or false alarms are always an annoyance. Choose a good model that will not be set off by smoke or will not be screwed up by high humidity levels. It is also worth noting the Lower Explosive Limit (LEL) used by the detector. LEL is the lowest amount of gas that will cause an explosion. These devices vary in their sensitivity settings as some are set to set off a warning alarm from 15% of LEL and above. Devices that sense lower levels of LEL will set off a warning quicker than those that can sense higher levels of LEL.

Alarm method – some devices may set off an audible alarm or something visible like flashing lights. It might be best to get a model that does both.

Maintenance – these devices usually run on battery so it is important to have them checked and cleaned regularly to keep it at its most optimum and sensitive level.

By: Mike Rowden

About the Author:

Historically, the idea of having video surveillance systems for a residential home hasn’t really been a reality for many people due to the high cost of such systems. In the last number of years, with technological advances and the drastic reduction in costs for most electronic equipment, home security camera systems have come much more into the price range of many average home owners. As such, many people who are concerned with protecting their families and their property have begun looking into home video surveillance systems. The main goals of such a system are two fold; first, as a deterrent to keep criminals at bay, and secondly, if the first part doesn’t work, they have recorded evidence to try to help catch and prosecute the perpetrator.

Let’s take a quick look at what is involved with Video Surveillance Systems (sometimes referred to as simply VSS)

Again, when using video surveillance systems, the idea may be to let people know that they are being watched in order to keep them in line. Or, on the other hand, it may be preferred to NOT let them know they are being watched so you can see their true behavior. An example of the first situation may be having a video camera on the outside of the house to try to scare away would be burglars. An example of the latter would be having something like a “nanny cam” to see what your nanny or baby sitter is really up to when they are supposed to be watching your kids, as well as how they treat your kids (this is especially useful when the kids are very, very young and can’t report back to you yet).

The first set up described above is known as an Overt System. Obviously the whole point is to have the cameras be very obvious. In fact, many people protect their property with overt systems which actually incorporate the use of fake security cameras. The idea with a fake security camera is that a thief sees it and decides it’s not worth the risk of targeting your home because he will probably get caught on tape. The beauty is, a fake camera looks very real but doesn’t cost nearly as much as a real system. The down side to this is that criminals aren’t necessarily the brightest folks on the block, and many won’t bother to look around and notice these cameras. If that’s the case and they do break into your home, you won’t have anything to help you identify and or prosecute them the way you would if you had had a real video surveillance system in place as part of your residential security system.

Like so many things, it’s a balance you need to decide on between efficacy and efficiency. Your call.

By: Ron S. Thames

About the Author:

Locks are used to secure rooms, cabinets, even buildings and certain storage facilities. Though most locks will open with a key, some locks require you to know specific combinations or codes. The original locksmiths were proficient in the science of making as well as defeating locks. The locksmith may be may be viewed as one of the first security engineers and the lock pick as the first tool of breaking through that security. Since most of these individuals were blacksmiths who made locks, they came to be known as locksmiths.

Nowadays, locksmith services and the locksmith tools have all undergone tremendous technological advances and sometimes it may seem a bit odd referring to an electronics security specialist as a provider of locksmith services but there is no other technical term. Our modern locksmiths perform electronic lock servicing that ranges from the locks on vehicles with transponders to personal assets of all types including homes, safes, and so on.

The locksmith services however do not merely cover installing the various security features. A good locksmith is meant to assess the risk level of what needs to be secured as well as other factors like location, access rights, and so forth, and based on that the optimal security measures are recommended. The locksmith tool might be an entire suite of various security features depending on the level of security desired. Of course there are times when the property being secured will not have some layers because each layer of security costs a bit extra.

Locksmiths may operate from their own premises, be mobile, could be employed by a security agency, or they could be forensic investigators. A locksmith may also choose specialization in a specific type of locksmith service like safe technician, security consultant, and so on. Different specializations come with different skills and they lead to different trades. Most often though, certifications from manufacturers or locksmith associations are more acceptable than training certificates. Some locksmiths often misuse the term Master Locksmith as their qualifications are mostly training certificates. Different countries have different minimum requirements for anyone to qualify as a Master Locksmith.

What is well recognized among all locksmiths is that a truly determined person who has the skills, knowledge, time, and unlimited resources will eventually manage to break any lock. That is why there are always secondary features installed by locksmiths that serve as deterrents to people with malicious intent.

Modern locks provide a high degree of security for buildings, documents, personal assets, and other valuable or crucial objects.

By: Rob Hargreaves

About the Author:

Hidden cameras can be used at any place, which requires secret monitoring. These cameras do not work as a deterrent device, as these cameras are hidden and others may not know that they are being watched through a camera. You can hide these security cameras anywhere like inside a book or a flower vase and even in a soft toy. They are very efficient in capturing vandalism. These cameras are also used to identify criminals.

They are useful in banks, offices, shops, countries, home, businesses etc. Some of the places where they are used efficiently are as follows:
Many companies use them to monitor employees, especially if they are handling sensitive information. Countries that have possible threat of terrorists attack use them as prevention. They can be very helpful in home also. If both the parents are working, leaving a kid with a babysitter is not safe. Installing a one at home can be a good option to keep a watch on babysitters or nanny’s. They are of great use in banks and lockers. As people keep valuables and money in lockers, they want extra security to be provided to them. In business, owners use them to keep an eye on suspicious employees. They help in catching the criminal or the suspect red handed. Thieves usually know about the visible cameras and can escape them but may not know about the place of a hidden one and can be caught easily.
Wireless are very common. They are very convenient to use and can be placed anywhere. They are flexible and hence allow efficient monitoring. The advantage of them is it that saves you from the hassles of wires. Wireless ones are ready to use and require no installation. But the problem comes when constant monitoring is required, as wireless works on battery power. They consume lot of battery. Some cameras come with motion detection feature, which activates the camera only when some movement is spotted and hence saves the power. However, battery power can be sufficient, if the camera is accessed after every eight hours’ gap. There are some controversies regarding these cameras. Use of them at the places like changing rooms, bath rooms, is illegal. Recording audio at work place is also considered to be illegal. The employer should know the legal rules and regulations regarding use of a these security cameras As an employer, it is very important for you to inform your employees about what you are installing and why. Get it signed on a paper that they have been told about them to avoid any future issues.

Hidden security cameras [http://www.sunsecurity.com/security-cameras-hidden-cameras-c-119_158.html] are efficient but very expensive also. They are good for large businesses, banks, or for the places which require secret supervision. Sometimes the price is more than the asset it is protecting. And hence installing one at such a place will not be of much use. So decide carefully whether you really require a one at your work place.

By: Steve Strong

About the Author:

You can never be too careful when it comes to home and business security. For some people security is a matter of preference, but sometimes it is necessary to install a security system in your home and/or business. Nowadays, security systems have become more complicated, but they can offer more peace of mind than in the past. Some security systems are so advanced that no one can notice that they are installed. This is achieved through motion sensors and wireless hidden cameras.

If you are planning to go shopping in your favorite store, you should make sure that you look good enough for the camera. No matter where you are in the store, there is a good chance that a camera is pointed in your direction. Some of these cameras are visible, but in most cases, the owners have installed wireless hidden cameras to monitor their customers. You will not know that they are there, unless you have been caught in the act of doing something illegal.

A business can choose from different types of wireless hidden cameras, but the most popular models are so tiny that you will never notice them. They can be placed behind a tiny hole in the wall, or situated behind a store display. They can be very tiny, and unless you are looking very hard for them, you would never figure out where they are. These models are ideal for stores that sell high price commodities,

Some home owners also install wireless hidden cameras in their living space. They can be part of the home security system, or they can be used as ‘nanny cams’. A family can use a tiny camera to record any activity in any room in the house. These wireless hidden cameras can be hidden in almost anything. These are ideal for families that have a maid service; just to be sure that nothing funny is going on.

These cameras are available on many places, but you can easily find them on the Internet. There are night vision cameras as well as wireless hidden cameras for all your security needs. If you don’t want to shop online, you can look for them on specialty stores, but remember to ask a lot of questions so you won’t be paying for more equipment than you actually need.

By: Morgan Hamilton

About the Author:

Home security for houses has been thoroughly covered on many occasions, but what about security for those living in apartments or condos? Apartment break-ins are as common as house break-ins, mainly because of two factors: the lack of information about apartment security and the lack of home security equipment designed for these settings. The following article will try to shed some light on this subject and offer apartment and condo owners some alternative security and prevention methods.

The first thing you can do in order to prevent future problems with burglars is checking the surroundings of your flat when thinking of buying your apartment or condo. It’s quite obvious that the type of neighborhood you will be living in will allow you to make an estimation on the type of home security you need. Since you’re limited to the kind of security improvements you will be allowed to make to your flat and its surroundings, make sure that the entire place is well lit, that there’s some form of security to the main entrance (a security guard assigned to the main entrance, an intercom and so forth) and that there are no other opportunities for a burglar to take advantage of before signing the deal.

Now, assuming that you’ve just moved in the apartment, it’s wise to follow a couple of rules from now on and turn them into natural home security habits instead of daily chores:

-	Change your lock immediately, even if it’s a new apartment and no one lived there previously.

-	If you think your lock is prone to being picked while you’re away from home (that is, if you’re living in a bad neighborhood or some of your neighbor’s apartments have been broken into this way) you might want to try out an “unpickable” lock such as a deadbolt.

-	Never leave your windows open when you’re not home. Fire escapes or other objects that a burglar could use to climb up to and get to your window are potential threats to your home’s security.

-	Always lock your door, even when you’re home. A stealthy thief can open your door and steal anything of value he can lay his hands on near the entrance in a matter of seconds while you’re in the bathroom or kitchen.

-	If the flat’s hallway lights go out, it’s the flat’s owner job to fix them, but it’s better for your own (and your neighbor’s) security to replace the light bulbs as fast as possible, in order to stop any robbery attempts that would take advantage of the dark.

-	This one’s a classic: use your peephole. You’ve probably been told this a dozen times while you were a kid and for good reasons. Not necessarily because a burglar will take you down once the door is open and steal everything in sight, but some burglars simple use the “may I borrow something” technique just to scout out your apartment and see if you have anything of value or figure a way to break in. In addition, use a door chain to offer you more protection. Remember that these two preventive methods are not only for home security, but also for your own personal security.

By: Fraser Wheaton

About the Author:
