Surveillance Cameras 101

Video surveillance security cameras and hidden cameras are becoming less expensive and affordable, so much that many people can afford to buy them for their small office, and home. Video and hidden cameras are specifically designed to give extra safety and security measures to the people and possessions they value most.

Employees and nannies can be checked upon, making sure nothing inappropriate happens at the office or home while you are away. Monitoring the kids from another part of the house is a convenient feature as is a camera in the parking lot of your business that warns you of any unexpected dangers that may await you outside.

There are basically two types of cameras, one being wireless and one wired. The wireless camera while being able to be called “wireless” still needs a power cable to supply to it. Having a battery operated camera is just nor cost effective. Wireless cameras just enable you to send the signal typically through 2.4 ghz waves without having to run an additional cable for video viewing or playback. Wired cameras cost less, but need a video cable run to supply it’s video feed. Then there are hidden or as they are sometimes called, “nanny cams”. These cameras can resemble a wall clock, a potted plant, a teddy bear, etc. You can recording without anyone knowing it. These cameras are wired and wireless also. They even come with a built in SD memory card reader for easy video viewing.

Let’s not forget fake security cameras. These are inexpensive look a likes without any of the internal hardware. They look just like the real thing and can make any possible intruder think twice about committing their intentions.

All the above mentioned cameras are available in Black or White lens, Color, and even 1080p High-Definition quality. Cameras can be programmed to count people, cars, and even follow people around if they cross a particular area. One of these types of cameras are called IP cameras. They are small computers with camera capabilities and so much more. Cameras can start at around $30 and run into the tens of thousands. Research your surroundings and figure out which camera system is best for you.

Do You Know How to Spot a Wireless Hidden Spy Camera?

It was easy to spot a wireless hidden spy camera not too many years ago due to their large size, but today, this has become increasingly difficult in recent years. Cameras are much smaller and consume a fraction of the power that they did not too long ago. Because of this, hidden cameras can be installed in nearly any place you can imagine.

My husband and I had dinner at one of our local restaurants, after dinner we went to sit at the bar and have a night cap while watching one of the local bands playing a few numbers. Due to owning a store that sells surveillance equipment and hidden (nanny cams) cameras, I always look around to see if I can detect any spy cameras.

It did not take me long to locate one. Behind the bar where the liquor bottles are stored on the shelf, there it was, one of the liquor bottles had a very small hole in it.

In conversation with the bartender, I casually referred to and pointed out the bottle that had the spy camera. I also explained to the bartender that I was in the hidden surveillance camera business and was actually looking around the place for a wireless hidden spy camera.

The bartender, who happen to be one of the owners, asked me not to say anything to anyone. I assured him that as a professional in the surveillance business, his spy equipment will be kept secret.

Actually, in further conversion I learned that the owners of the restaurant were looking for additional wireless hidden spy camera equipment to put in other parts of the establishment. I even explained to him that surveillance equipment is dropping in price which makes the equipment very affordable. In fact, the average person can install and operated these cameras.

Hidden wireless cameras are nothing more than a board camera. A board camera is fully contained on a single circuit board including camera optics and all the electronics needed for generating the video signal. Board cameras are very easy to hide because of their tiny size. A video signal is sent to a receiver and is able to be watched right then and there or recorded for viewing sometime later.

New technology has come up with what is called a CMOS camera. There are cameras that can be handheld, photo capable cell phones and webcams, in fact, these cameras are less sensitive to electrical distortions and use less power. The draw back to the CMOS camera is that they are not as light sensitive which makes the image guality not as good under low light conditions.

The CMOS wireless hidden spy camera is what is placed in products such as the alarm clock hidden camera, wall clock hidden camera, and most anything else that is used around the house, business, or even the office. These cameras are so small that they can be hidden in more places than one could ever imagine. You can go into any spy shop store and you will find surveillance cameras galore. All the surveillance and hidden cameras come in many sizes, shapes and specific specifications. If you do not know what you are looking for but do know what you want the surveillance for, it would be best to ask the store personnel for their advice.

For starters, I will tell you some of the most important things to look for when purchasing surveillance equipment. Before buying a spy camera, you should know the difference between a wired and a wireless system.

Wired cameras have a video cable that runs from the camera to your recording or viewing device such as a DVR, VCR, or monitor.

Wireless cameras have a built-in transmitter that sends the video signal to a receiver. The receiver connects to your recording or viewing device. A wireless system can transmit up to 1000 feet and a high powered wireless camera can transmit up to 2500 feet.

There are two kinds of lens for either the wired or wireless cameras. A Varifocal Lens is one where the focal length of the lens can be varied. This is a fancy way of saying it is a zoom lens. Most varifocal lenses have, and in almost all circumstances should have, an auto iris feature.

The other lens is a Fixed Focal Length Lens that can not zoom. The focus is fixed. A fixed focal length lens usually allows more light to pass through the lens at a given focal length than a varifocal, or zoom lens. This can be important in low light situations.

If you do not know what you want or need, discuss with the shop employee what you are trying to accomplish. The employee should be able to recommend the number of cameras you will need and suggest where you can place those cameras. Do you want indoor and out door surveillance or just one or the other? Learn what a camera can do for you vs what you really need.

To protect you home, business, or personal stuff at your work place, you need a wireless hidden spy camera. If you believe something fishy is going on but you can not put your finger on it, you need a hidden camera to catch what you can not.

Millions of people are using a wireless hidden spy camera to check on their babysitters, to catch theft, even to catch abuse and infidelity. No other method can give you the proof or evidence that a surveillance camera can.

Spy Gadgets Are the New Nannies

When you are younger and do not have any kids, it is difficult to imagine what parents fret about when it comes to keeping an eye on the safety of their children. Now with worldwide news available the worry-factor has increased based on the fact that child-snatches, serious abuse of infants and such-like receives major coverage. It really is not surprising then that parents are increasingly turning to spy gadgets to monitor their children and their safety.

Spy Gadgets are generally ready-made solutions for a specific purpose. The phrase ‘Nanny-Cam’ has been used in the USA for many years and it refers to a specific type of spy gadget – namely the covert spy camera. Nanny-cams have been used for many years in the form of wireless spy cameras or hard-wired camera solutions, but technology has now produced simpler and more powerful spy gadgets. Excellent examples of these are bedside Clock/Alarms with built-in 3G Camera and recording capability. These fantastic spy devices allow discreet video calling enabling parents to see in real-time what is going on in their home and if anything untoward is witnessed, they can activate recording onto SD Card in the Clock Camera. Another device of this type is another clock/alarm with built-in high quality camera and recording facility. This advanced spy device can take up to a 32GB SD Card allowing up to 64 hours of recording on motion activation

Other commonly used spy equipment are wireless cameras. These are usually hidden in a child’s teddy bear or built into the fabric of a room and have remote receiving and recording facility elsewhere in the house. Some receivers can even be connected to the family computer by USB where recording takes place and remote monitoring is possible.

It seems obvious that the market and technology would respond by providing spy equipment solutions, but what is surprising is the sophistication of the latest spy gadgets that seem to have been built for purpose. So, if you need a spy camera system at home the latest spy gadgets have provided the answer.

Home Security Alarms – Wired Or Wireless Surveillance Cameras?

If you are looking to secure your home more and greatly reduce the chances of your home being broken into, a surveillance camera can add tremendous value. They are excellent deterrents to potential burglars and intruders because of their ability to record and help identify them. Many of today’s home security alarm systems come with at least one, and often several, surveillance cameras. However, some of the cameras are wired and other companies offer cameras that are wireless. Which type works best?

There is not simple answer since there are positives and negatives to both. Below is a list of each.

Wireless surveillance cameras. The biggest benefit to a wireless home security alarm and surveillance camera is that they are mobile. You can move them very easily in case you renovate your home or move. There is very little construction required to install them and since there is no drilling or cutting necessary, you can move them very easily.

The biggest disadvantage of a wireless system is the lower quality of the video feed or photograph that the camera provides. The resolution and overall quality of the image is not as good as it is with the wired version.

Wired surveillance cameras. They offer great pictures and secure settings but the construction involved to correctly install them is intense. Most people hire a professional to put them in and this can be very expensive. Also, once they are in place, they are there for good.

Wired cameras are more energy efficient. This is probably the biggest advantage of them. If a homeowner were to run their cameras all day and night, the energy savings can be very dramatic.

Why You Should Go Wireless – Advantages of Wireless Security Surveillance Cameras

Wireless security surveillance cameras used to be used exclusively by banks, but now the technology has been passed down to the consumer. Anybody can purchase and install a cheap wireless security camera system with little hassle at all. Wireless is the way to go, and there are several reasons why.

Don’t Tear Up Your House!

The greatest benefit of these is that you don’t have to mess with your house’s infrastructure. This is what causes you lots of headache when you’re installing a CCTV or other wired system. With those systems, you have to run wires through your ceiling and walls.

Most of us aren’t up to this kind of handwork. We’re talking about drilling, soldering and everything else you can imagine. It’s even worse if you live in a big house where you’ll have to run wires everywhere. If you’re not a real handyperson, you end up having to call a professional to get it installed, and that hits your pocket book.

More Efficient

They are more efficient than old school systems. This is especially true if you are installing cameras or lights outside. Breaks in wires are a major reason why camera systems go on the blink. With this kind of system, you can cut that risk down to zero.

With this type of system, you can mount cameras or lights in any part of the yard, and you don’t have to worry about storms, rain or heavy winds knocking out your home’s security. Using this technology protects your system against the elements.

Special Features You Can Do Just About Anything With

These systems give you lots more options for special features. They allow you much more room to customize your security system. Instead of wires running all over the place, your system uses an antenna that sends data to a receiver. This gives you a wide range of choices about where you’d like the data sent. You can have it sent directly to your PC, or even your mobile phone. That way, you can keep tabs on the house from anywhere. Your wireless security cameras can also notify you when there is something funny afoot.

Without all those wires to mess with, you can place your cameras anywhere. Put one in the bushes, on the mailbox, in the bird feeder. With the tiny cameras they make these days, your options are unlimited. Your indoor placement options also increase. Light fixtures, alarm clocks, paintings-let your inner spy run wild.

These days, it costs no more than a regular system. The prices have come down, and as the popularity of this technology soars, they make easier and easier systems to install. Go wireless and you can keep your home or business safe the easy way.

A Guide to Wireless Nanny Cameras

They say that nowadays you can’t trust anybody. There’s more to truth to that than many of us would like to admit. Even Reagan used to say “trust, but cut the deck anyway”. Many families are taking this philosophy when it comes to monitoring their nanny. They are using wireless nanny cameras to make sure nothing out of the ordinary is going on in their household.

Consider the facts — no matter how much you interview someone, get to know them and talk to them, when you are gone you can never be too sure what they are up to. Who knows how your nanny really treats your kids when you are gone. Now you can know for sure — if you install a wireless camera you can supervise what’s going on inside your home, even when you’re not there. Wireless nanny cameras are tiny digital video cameras, often disguised as wall clocks, toys, mirrors or other inconspicuous objects. Typically, they offer the ability to store video data to be used later on, and also supply video feed so you can watch them “live” from a remote location.

Don’t think that this technology is expensive. It used to be — it wasn’t too long ago that it would cost upwards of $1000 or more to have wireless camera technology installed in your home. Nowadays, due to advances in technology, this can be achieved sometimes for under $100. If you’re on the fence on whether you should purchase a wireless nanny camera or not, then consider the following. How much peace of mind would having a camera monitoring your nanny bring you ? Also, think of the fringe benefits. It can help you protect your home from burglars and thieves. Also, when you’re on vacation you can still monitor your home.

Before purchasing a wireless nanny camera, make sure that you understand how to use it, how to install it and what you plan on doing with it. This will save you a lot of trouble and prevent you from making a bad purchasing decision. Also, it will help to clarify exactly what you need, and what you feel comfortable placing in your home.

In conclusion, I have given you a simple guide to the basics of wireless nanny cameras. Use this information to help you determine if one would be right in your home.

Tips on Choosing the Right Security Cameras

Security cameras are today not limited to business establishments and hotels. Nowadays, security cameras are a great means of watching your property from the convenience of your home. You can thus prevent thefts and any unwanted entry.

When buying security cameras, it is important that you first study your needs. This means that you have to consider the area you need to be covered and thus the number of cameras required to study the area. When buying a security camera system, make sure that there are enough slots for future expansion.

If you need audio, then you have to opt for a camera system having audio recording equipment wherein you not only see what happens, but can hear as well. Such a security camera system is useful, and needed when you need everything to be documented. However, this is rather expensive and this is one reason why most people usually take only video records. You also have to choose if you want the security camera to record details in color or black and white. As expected, color cameras are more expensive, but are more sophisticated and give better pictures.

The next point to consider when choosing security cameras is to consider where you intend to locate the cameras. If the location is hard in wiring, then it is better to choose a wireless security camera system. Moreover when placing security cameras, it is better to place them in places that are conductive to high quality broadcast. There has to be no interference as wireless cameras are more flexible than the fixed wires ones.

If you intend to use the security camera for outdoor purposes, then there has to be special weatherproof housings. Moreover, as they can get vandalized, there has to be proper protection. Take into consideration the lighting of the area where you intend to place security cameras. If there is no proper lighting, then you will end up with muddy pictures which are of no use for surveillance.

Lastly, consider the locations of power sources and that they are protected from the elements and tampering. Keeping all these points into consideration, you are sure to end up with a security camera system that meets all your requirements.

Nanny Cameras Help Expose Child Abuse

As increasingly number of parents choose to be on the job full-time, nannies have become more commonplace. Hiring a nanny has its benefits, but also raises safety fears. For parents, leaving their babies and young children with a totally unknown can be a hard thing. Normally, the nannies become a responsible member of the family. Sometimes, nannies have been included in theft, carelessness, and in the worst situation, child abuse. By installing a hidden nanny camera, parents are capable to see how the nanny is really interacting with the children when the parents aren’t at home.

Nanny Cams have been developed since their origination. Former versions of what was soon nicknamed the nanny cam were Hidden Cameras inside of teddy bears, which is frequently defeated the function of covertness because there was a cable coming out of the rear of the toy to power the camera. Latest more modern devices such as Recon DVR Cam put Hidden Cameras and Mini Digital Video Recorders (DVR) inside of ordinary household items such as alarm clock radios, air freshener fans, Mini Black Box Recorders and mantle clocks. Gadgets such as the Recon DVR Cam provide recording onto a Secure Digital (SD) card.

Nanny Abuse and Prevention Techniques

“My nanny knows that we have hidden cams installed in our household, we don’t tell her where, we tell her that they are there”, said Julia, a Long Island mother of three kids. “For me its more of a preventive rather than a measure what should I do with the problem after the fact”, she added.

A New York City Police Department spokesperson said, “We’ve had over two dozen arrests over the past quarter of nannies and caregivers caught on tape by nanny cameras abusing children.”

“Fortunately none of them were serious”, added the spokesperson. Brad Frederickson, a security consultant explained the first step is to take a proper interview of the possible nanny to be hired. This is the initial step of prevention before the family should resort to installing a Nanny Camera, or any other covert surveillance system. He added, “If a hidden camera system is a must to put the families mind at ease, a device like the Recon DVR Cam is the best solution, without having to install an complicated and expensive surveillance system.”
